he Game-Changer: Fast Charging Protocols
This determines how fast energy is transferred.

  • USB Power Delivery (PD): The modern, universal standard. It's a smart protocol that negotiates the optimal high speed and power (up to 240W) between the power bank and the device. Essential for fast-charging modern smartphones, tablets, and especially laptops. Look for "PD 3.0" or higher.

  • Quick Charge (QC): A proprietary standard primarily from Qualcomm, still common on many devices. Good, but PD is becoming the dominant and more versatile standard. Some power banks support both.

The Innovation: GaN Technology

  • Gallium Nitride (GaN): This is a new semiconductor material that replaces traditional silicon in the charger/power bank's circuitry. The result? GaN chargers and power banks are significantly smaller, lighter, and generate less heat for the same power output. A 65W GaN charger can be half the size of an old silicon one. It represents the next step in portable power design.
